Even though the cover makes it seem as if this book is for parents of students with leaning issues, Ready for Take-Off is a valuable resource for ALL parents. If I were still in the classroom, I would recommend it to my middle school parents, especially those with 8th graders . There is no reason to wait until high school to begin the process of coaching your child to develop self-determination, academic maturity, and daily living skills necessary to live independently.
As you read, you will have the opportunity to evaluate your parenting approach and create a systematic plan to (slowly) prepare your child for independent living. You will learn what not to do AND exactly what to do to send your child on - ready for the college experience.
Instead of micro-managing , you will be coaching your child towards a smooth transition to college. After all, don't we want our children to be independent and successful? This book will help you on that journey.
